Welcome to
"Tucson's Internet to Amprnet
Gateway"
Est. Jan. 1995
This is the Web (www) information page for the HAMGATE that serves
Southern Arizona. Located at the KVOA TV-4 studios in Tucson
Arizona. This gateway was established by Bob
Cash, N8IMO and is now operated by Mike Bucciarelli, N7CK.
The purpose of this machine is to provide a link between the Southern
Arizona's Packet Radio service and the Internet. This gateway has two radio
ports of which Amateur (HAM) Radio Operators can link directly from the
radio network to the Internet. Another primary use for this gateway is
to provide a "wormhole" jump for routing of ham related mail via the Internet.
Hams can usually reach this gateway from two sources. One is via Packet
Radio on 145.050 MHz or 223.560 MHz (1200baud) in the Tucson area, or with
TELNET from the Internet.
kv4oa.ampr.org is the amateur IP domain
name.
The above address is reachable via either the Internet or Packet
Radio. The callsign of KV4OA with the NETROM alias of TUCIP is used on the packet
radio ports of 145.050 and 223.56 MHz.
There is also an APRS Igate server (aprsdTUS) running on the same site which
transmits locally received APRS packets on 144.39 MHz to aprs network.
The picture to the left shows the tower where the Hamgate's two meter
antenna hangs at the 75' level. The picture to the right shows the rack
containing the Pentium-150 computer, radios, and TNCs.
Special thanks to: Glenn Griffith WB7TLS, Jeff Seligman WA2VNT,
Bob Nielsen, N7XY,
Chuck Michels KB7RFI and John Bryson N7DME for
their support and donations.
